Where To Take Your Omni Loved Ones in PDX -When You’re Vegan
While we have made the decision to go vegan for ourselves, it can make it difficult to find places to eat when you want to out with friends or family who are omni because you also want to cater to their food preferences.
After going with friends and family to several spots around Portland myself. Here is a list of places that have both vegan and omni options that have been enjoyed by my family and friends as well that will make a perfect food day in the city of roses.
Electrica
What makes this coffee spot unique? It is a Japanese tea and Mexican coffee cafe that is located in the Schoolhouse Electric building. With the beautiful brick exterior and interior, it gives an industrial yet modern vibe that makes it inviting. You can enjoy tea and coffee on it’s own but they carry unique lattes like hojicha lattes and other flavors that are unique to Electrica. They also don’t charge extra for plant-based mylks. There’s also a home and plant store connected to Electrica.

A staple in Portland SE Hawthorne. They’re a brunch spot that has something for everyone. Great omni, vegan, and gluten-free options. From scrambles to benedicts and even a vegan French Toast (they have a regular one too). Delicious coffee and it’s right by all the cool shops to check out on Hawthorne including the famous House of Vintage store.

Top Burmese

This restaurant continues to be a favorite in the city of Portland. It started off with one small location run by a Burmese family but the family has grown it to now have 4 locations across town. The menu varies at each location but the food is a delight with great vegan and omni options. Including noodles, curries, and many small plates to share. Their samosas are a stand out and you can’t go wrong with any of their noodle dishes. I personally have brought out of town friends and family and each person has been extremely pleased with their experience and I’m sure your loved ones will be too!
Pro tip: Both Portland locations are in Slabtown. A great, walkable area where you can enjoy more shops, bars, cafes and more! Their Beaverton location is in downtown Beaverton, which is also a great walking area to explore.

Mestizo
Mestizo is a neighborhood restaurant on the popular SE Division St. and is the perfect place for special occasions or just because. Many vegan options and the restaurant is entirely gluten-free. They have an open kitchen, which allows you to smell all of the incredible food being prepared. Their dishes are Latin American inspired and have tapas to share such as ceviche (even a vegan ceviche) and tostones. They do have large plates that are also great for sharing, refreshing cocktails both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options. Reservations are highly recommended, especially if you have a group.
