7 Best noodles in Portland, Oregon
Portland is a noodle haven. With so many different types of noodles, it’s hard to pick one. So I’ve done the work for you to share with you some of my favorite noodles in the city from many different cuisines.
Kama-age Udon noodles at Wa Kitchen Kuu
This noodle dish comes to you deconstructed. You receive a hot pot of fresh udon noodles on a tray. You also receive small plates of garlic, seaweed, sesame seeds, and other ingredients to add to your housemade Kenchin vegetable soup. Chao Mian at Stretch The Noodle
Chao Mian with tofu
This is a classic food cart downtown. Owned and run by a husband and wife team, they hand pull Chinese noodles and give you a very generous portion. The Chao Mian noodles with tofu is a delight with their spicy sauce that you can ask to make it mild or hot. They’re only open for lunch and tend to have long lines but it is worth the wait!

This noodle soup is the perfect remedy on a cold day. It has a thick coconut broth that is sweet yet savory and loaded with spices. The wheat noodles are chewy and topped with fried garlic, onions, cilantro and wonton strips. Get a side of their fried, golden samosas to make it the perfect meal.

TanTan Mazemen at Kayo’s Ramen Bar
TanTan Mazemen
We are spoiled in Portland with all of the incredible ramen spots but the one I always go back to and thoroughly enjoy is the Tantan Mezamen ramen at Kayo’s. Kayo’s has incredible vegan options on their menu, with their entire ramen menu available vegan. But what is special about their this ramen is that tan tan ramen is the Japanese version of the Sichuan DanDan Mian from China. The broth here at Kayo’s has a sesame paste and the seasoned tofu that it comes gives it the perfect touch. They make their ramen in house their food I always find comfort in.

Tempura Udon at Obon Shokudo
Tempura udon with tofu katsu and curried korokke
Udon noodles are a classic staple in Japanese cuisine and Obon Shokudo does it right. Obon Shokudo is an all vegan Japanese restaurant and they make their udon noodles in house. My favorite is their tempura udon and my the best part of the experience is smelling the fragrant broth as they bring their udon dish to you. It is mesmerizing and brings me a sense of comfort. Then I take a bite of their house made noodles and I’m in awe. This is one my most favorite dishes of all time and I’m sure it will be yours too.

You Po Mian at Bing Mi Dumpling and Noodle Bar
You Po Mian
Chow mein tends to be the popular noodle dish at Chinese restaurants but what I love about Bing Mi Dumpling and Noodle Bar is that you won’t see that here. Instead, you’ll find other popular noodle dishes you’d find in North Eastern China and that includes You Po Mian. It is a wide noodle dish with soy vinegar, garlic, green onions, sesame seeds, chili powder, and then splashed with shaanxi-style oil. It is a delicious dish that I keep coming back to.
