Paella at tapas at Can Font restaurant

Looking for an upscale restaurant for that special occasion? I’ve compiled a list of some of my favorite restaurants in Portland that are either vegan or have great vegan options so you can celebrate that special moment with your loved ones.

Can Font

This special place is located in the Pearl. They serve incredible Spanish/Catalan inspired tapas and paella. When it comes their vegan options, they have put in a lot of effort into them. They have many tapas to choose from that are either vegan or can be made vegan and the portions I find to be rather big for tapas. When it comes to their signature paella, they have a vegan paella topped with roasted vegetables and Field Roast sausage. Choose between their smaller paella (1-2 people) or their larger paella (3-5 people) size. I have taken my family here for my dad’s birthday since they are not vegan and it was a place we all enjoyed.

Mestizo

The word “Mestizo” means “mixed race”, therefore you’ll find a combination of delicious flavors from different parts of the world. Particularly, Latin America. At Mestizo, their plates are meant to be shared and they have delicious vegan options. Like their coconut ceviche, tostones, fried banana flower tacos and more. They have an incredible cocktail/mocktail menu, which makes it a great place to come and celebrate with loved ones. Mestizo also offers a great brunch on the weekends if you want to come during the day.

República

For a memorable dining experience, República will give you a meal like no other. They have a Mexico-forward chef’s tasting menu, with each dish presented to you like a work of art. The servers do an incredible job of sharing with you the story behind each dish. When making your reservation, share that you are vegan and they do a great job of accommodating each dish for vegans without feeling like you’re missing out. The menu is 5 courses including dessert (there was a vegan option) and other special little surprises in between.
