8 Best Vegan/Vegan Friendly Upscale Restaurants in Portland, Oregon
Portland is known for its vegan scene but where do you go when you are looking to eat at an upscale place for a special occasion or just because you’re in the mood? I’ve eaten at several restaurants for special occasions with my family. From birthdays to Mother’s Day. So here’s 8 restaurants that are vegan and vegan friendly for that upscale experience that are some of my favorites!
Can Font - Vegan Friendly
Vegan paella and tapas options at Can Font - Photo by Vegan Ventures
This special place is located in the Pearl. They serve incredible Spanish/Catalan inspired tapas and paella. When it comes their vegan options, they have put in a lot of effort into them. They have many tapas to choose from that are either vegan or can be made vegan and the portions I find to be rather big for tapas. When it comes to their signature paella, they have a vegan paella topped with roasted vegetables and Field Roast sausage. Choose between their smaller paella (1-2 people) or their larger paella (3-5 people) size. I have taken my family here for my dad’s birthday since they are not vegan and it was a place we all enjoyed.

Once a popular pop-up, Feral now has a brick and mortar on NE Killingsworth. This dimly lit restaurant really sets the mood as they focus on locally foraged and seasonal ingredients. Creating dishes that are artfully presented and allows every ingredient to shine. They’re making veggie-focused dishes such as mushroom lion cordon bleu, maitake mushroom steak with a combination of small and large plates that are perfect for sharing. They have a full bar and offer both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.

Grana is a pizza spot that allows vegetables to shine. Most of the pizzas can easily be made vegan and their dough is easy on the stomach. That is because their 00 Caputo flour is imported from Italy and is proofed for 72 hours. The restaurant is an open kitchen, so you can see the chefs at work making fresh pizzas and salads.

Mestizo - Vegan Friendly
The word “Mestizo” means “mixed race”, therefore you’ll find a combination of delicious flavors from different parts of the world. Particularly, Latin America. At Mestizo, their plates are meant to be shared and they have delicious vegan options. Like their coconut ceviche, tostones, fried banana flower tacos and more. They have an incredible cocktail/mocktail menu, which makes it a great place to come and celebrate with loved ones. Mestizo also offers a great brunch on the weekends if you want to come during the day.

A plant-based tasting menu brought to you by Chef Aaron Adams. Known for his fermentation techniques in his food, this one of a kind experience is a must for any food lover. Whether you’re vegan or not. Astera is meant to be a place that celebrates the Pacific Northwest from the ingredients used, including its olive oil to even its dishware. Made by local artisans.
